- A foundational career spanning both residential and commercial construction provides me with a granular, unfiltered understanding of the real estate development lifecycle. Holding a DZ licence and having executed every phase of a project—from navigating complex municipal zoning applications to hands-on structural execution—I understand the operational realities behind the balance sheets. For the Cornerstone Board, this translates into an ability to critically evaluate development proposals, accurately assess project timelines, and identify logistical or regulatory bottlenecks before they impact capital outlays.
Crisis Management & Risk Mitigation
- My tenure with the Hamilton Fire Department instilled a rigid operational discipline in high-stakes environments. Functioning in emergency response requires rapid risk assessment, decisive action under extreme pressure, and clear, authoritative communication with the public during critical incidents. As a board member, this background ensures I remain objective and strategically focused during crisis management, complex negotiations, or periods of organizational volatility. I bring a tested framework for prioritizing risk mitigation, ensuring operational continuity, and maintaining stakeholder trust when pressure is highest.
Institutional Networking & Capital Allocation
- Through my strategic work alongside McMaster University’s Innovation Park and Mohawk College, I successfully facilitated the funding and launch of the Additive Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). This required extensive, ongoing engagement with Canadian politicians, industry leaders, and institutional stakeholders to align public policy objectives with private capital distribution. - My active participation in Cornerstone’s "Hockey Helps the Homeless" team reflects my commitment to the union’s broader social responsibilities beyond daily transaction volume. Executing and participating in these fundraising initiatives requires logistical coordination and the ability to mobilize networks for community impact. I believe a strong board does not just govern; it leads by example in its philanthropic outreach. My involvement here demonstrates that I am already deeply invested in Cornerstone’s cultural initiatives and will continue to aggressively champion our union's charitable footprint at the board level.
Youth Mentorship & Stakeholder Management (Minor Hockey Coaching)
- Serving as a minor hockey coach has been an ongoing exercise in leadership, long-term development, and complex stakeholder management. Beyond running drills, coaching requires aligning a diverse group of individuals toward a singular, seasonal objective while simultaneously managing the competing expectations of parents, officials, and league administrators. For the Cornerstone Board, this translates directly into my ability to build consensus, foster collaborative team environments, and navigate interpersonal dynamics effectively, ensuring that collective goals supersede individual agendas in the boardroom.
Environmental Stewardship & Civic Advocacy (Anti-Dumping & Green Initiatives)
- I actively dedicate time to local green initiatives, with a specific, targeted focus on combating and preventing illegal dumping in our communities. This initiative requires direct engagement with municipal bylaws and a commitment to protecting local ecosystems from degradation. As a real estate professional, I view environmental stewardship and the protection of land value as inextricably linked. My advocacy in this space brings a strong, civically responsible perspective to the Board, reinforcing that Cornerstone members are not just transacting within our communities but actively defending and improving them.
